Hello Families! My name is LaWanda Townsend, and I am excited to join the tribe at Great Minds Learning Community. I grew up in Houston, Texas, graduating from Houston Christian University with a Bachelor’s in Christianity and Entrepreneurship. As the child of a lifelong teacher, I began to provide tutoring in the 10th grade in both paid and volunteer positions. I continued private tutoring throughout college and turned it into a business I operated while I homeschooled my three children for over ten years. As a private tutor, I worked with unique and exceptional kiddos of all ages.
My military family has lived in many locations, including Georgia, Germany, and California, to name a few. As an eclectic individual, I don’t fit into many prescribed categories. My tastes in music, movies, anime, and even food range far and wide. I am an avid traveler, and my hobbies include reading, creating art, photography, hiking, and having adventures.
I am attracted to this position because all children deserve to learn in personalized ways, small ratio schools rock, and I love the homeschool community feel. My children are in public school now, so I am looking forward to once again being surrounded by a community of learners.
